چکیده

This paper describes the self-assembly of hydrogen-bonded polymeric rods based on the lattice of cyanuric acid and melamine (CA‚M). Data from 1H NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are interpreted as indicating that the self-assembly of a bisisocyanuric acid (bisCA) and a bismelamine (bisM) formed polymeric nanorods [(bisCA)n(bisM)n] composed of parallel CA‚M rosettes. The TEM results suggest that these rods aggregate as bundles. The length of the bundles ranged from 100 to 1500 nm, and their diameter was in the range from 15 to 500 nm.

Estimating the Entropic Cost of Self-Assembly of Multiparticle Hydrogen-Bonded Aggregates Based on the Cyanuric Acid‚Melamine Lattice

The entropic component of the free energy of assembly for multiparticle hydrogen-bonded aggregates is analyzed using a model based on balls connected by rigid rods or flexible strings. The entropy of assembly, ∆S, is partitioned into translational, rotational, vibrational, and conformational components. While previously reported theoretical treatments of rotational and vibrational entropies for...

A hydrogen-bonded channel structure formed by a complex of uracil and melamine

The structure of a 1:1 complex of uracil and melamine obtained by cocrystallization has been investigated. The structure involves hydrogen bonded layers with apertures stacked along the a and b directions giving rise to channels, unlike the complex of cyanuric acid with melamine.

Non-covalent synthesis of organic nanostructures

This review describes the synthesis, characterization and functionalization of hydrogen bonded, box-like assemblies. These assemblies are formed upon mixing bismelamine calix[4]arenes with a complementary barbiturate in apolar solvents. Various techniques for the characterization have been used, like 'H NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography and a novel MALDI-TOF MS technique. The use of cyanu...

Self-assembly and stability of double rosette nanostructures with biological functionalities.

The syntheses of calix[4]arene dimelamines that are functionalized with alkyl, aminoalkyl, ureido, pyridyl, carbohydrate, amino acid and peptide functionalities, and their self-assembly with barbituric acid or cyanuric acid derivatives into well-defined hydrogen-bonded nanostructures are described. The thermodynamic stability of these hydrogen-bonded assemblies was studied by CD spectroscopy in...
